Across Lake Maitland, in Orange County around 1935, submarine cable is laid by the Winter Park Telephone Company. Notice the two men by the roll of cable. There’s one with a cigar, John Henderson, the construction manager.

This is a fascinating photo. There is a LOT of water to cut through across our state to connect wires and cables. Here’s how it was done in the mid-1930s. I worked to make this photo as clear as i could from the book’s tinted image.

This photo is from ‘Telephony in Florida Since 1877’ by Howard E. Carraway and in the Swampy library.
