Here is The Empire Room of the old Hotel Roosevelt in Jacksonville. This dining area was once considered one of the best in the southeast. That unfortunately ended September 1st, 1926 when a fire at the hotel became the greatest disaster since a fire swept through Jacksonville in 1901. Twenty-two people died in the Hotel Roosevelt fire. The hotel closed in 1964. The building reopened for use as apartments and then closed again in 1989. In 2033 the building was restored throughout and was reopened again as apartments, which is what it is today. Today it is named The Carling after the initial person whose company developer the property in to the hotel in 1926, Carling L. Dinkler.
