It’s a day for the moles to come out and do some dancin’! Hague, the mole, is doing just that!
It was biologist Carl Linnaeus in the 1700s that gave the mole the scientific name Scalopus Aquaticus. The second part of the name came from Linnaeus finding the mole in the water -dead- so tagged the little critter with the watery aquaticus name. As with other animals in Florida, the Eastern mole tends to be smaller here than in other states.
Swampy has lived in Florida more years than most can count. He has seen many centuries and knows many, many things. Especially about Florida. Still he reads and reads to know more. Being as smart as Swampy is, he certainly fits the label of being “cool” today!
Go out and be smart today!

Swampy was part of an event explaining water issues at On Top of The World in Ocala. Here Swampy is with his pals Silver Springs State Park ranger Rachel, Lisa, Judy and Rob with an upcoming new Swampy watercolor print! I’ll post that soon!
