Today would have been Mr. Roger’s 87th birthday. Fred Rogers connection to Florida is that he went to Rollins College in Witner Park and in 1951 he earned a bachelor’s degree in music composition. It was from Rollins that Rogers was hired by NBC in New York to produce and be floor director for programs in New York City. Thus he started his entertainment career that would eventually lead him to developing a children’s programs that included a cast of characters in Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.
