Swampy’s Florida says Happy National Mole Day!
It’s a day for the moles to come out and do some dancin’! Hague, the mole, is doing just that!
It was biologist Carl Linnaeus in the 1700s that gave the mole the scientific name Scalopus Aquaticus. The second part of the name came from Linnaeus finding the mole in the water -dead- so tagged the little critter with the watery aquaticus name. As with other animals in Florida, the Eastern mole tends to be smaller here than in other states.
