Postcard Wednesday – Along the Caloosahatchee, 1913
Postmarked 1913 this postcard from somewhere near Lee County ended up in Brawley, California. The note on back is a sister not happy that she’s going to have to stay where they are in Florida for “a few more years’. I wonder what did become of the lady?
You might be able to tell that this postcard was handcolored. It was ‘Published by Cochrane’s Book Store, Palatka’.
Below is a relative area of the Caloosahatchee River. This area was the most populated in 1913. However the river does come from further east and starts out of Lake Okeechobee. Communities on the Okeechobee side were around in 1913 and the lady, whose name is not provided on the postcard, could have been living around Clewiston or Moore Haven or anywhere over to Fort Myers.
