Swampy’s #Florida: A #Miami Father’s Day!
Swampy’s friend, Les Singleton shared these photos of his father, Jack Singleton, in Miami in 1936.
Les writes of his father:
“When he was 24, he and his sister Lillian traveled by car from her home in the rural panhandle of Florida all the way down to Miami and back. The portrait was taken at a studio in Miami in 1936. My father in 1938 or 1939 was operating a street car in Miami, and saw this young lady, Edith, on her way to teach Sunday school at Trinity Episcopal Church, so along with my siblings, here I am.”
The other photo is Les’ father and siblings in 1945 in Miami, on NW 56th St. Les is on the handle bars.
Les writes of what his father and mother meant to him:
“We seven Singleton siblings have much to be thankful for, with parents who gave us love, who encouraged faith in Jesus, inspired a work ethic, enjoyed reading, and instilled rock solid honesty, persistence and creativity — and, oh yes — a love of travel!”
Les now lives in Micanopy.
