Swampy’s Florida Friday Train Stops: St. Petersburg Atlantic Coast Line Railroad depot, 1906.
This was the new Atlantic Coast Line railroad depot that opened in 1906. The depot was met with complaints. This was urged on, as has always been the case by the constantly disgruntled St. Petersburg Times (Now Tampa Bay Times). The newspaper had, months before the opening, published an editorial about their view that the new depot being built was not up to the paper’s standards and that the “company should have treated us better as they had always promised to do, but – you know how big corporations are.” This riled the public that “We deserve better than this!”
The depot looks pretty nice to me.
Ah, the power of the press.
