Swampy’s Florida Postcards: McKee Gardens royal palms, 1960.

I can’t recall this forest of royal palms being still a part of McKee Gardens. A check of a Google aerial doesn’t show any combination of palms this dense. Hurricanes and time likely brought most of these down.

This postcard sure looks older than 1960! That is the postmark on the back. Could be an older card that was found on a postcard rack in Miami Beach, where this was mailed from.
The ladies outfits would appear to be older than 1960.

This postcard was mailed October 5th, 1960 from Miami Beach to ‘Miss Mathilda Kiel’of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “We certainly are having marvelous weather” write ‘Irene & Al’. Both write they are leaving in a week for Clearwater, though they don’t write where they are at the time of mailing. Makes one curious as to their travels from McKee Gardens, south of Vero Beach, and the 3 hours south to Miami Beach.
