Swampy’s Florida Postcards: Fishing Pier, Anna Maria Island, 1953.
The Anna Maria City Pier has lasted the storms of time since it’s opening in 2012. Almost. Hurricanes at different points have knocked out the pier only for it to reopen. Hurricane Irma did the biggest damage in 2017 and only recently did the pier re-open. The structure at the end has held many businesses. Most recently some variation of restaurant. At this time the City Commission is working with Mote Marine to take over the spot to display and research. Basically a mini- version of what they do on Longboat Key.

This postcard was mailed December 3rd, 1953 with a Sarasota postmark. Anne and Randle mailed this to Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Hoss in Pendleton, Indiana. Anne writes that Randle was fishing with a pal from Iowa and had caught “22 nice fish. The largest weighed about 5 lbs.”
This postcard is part of the Swampy’s Florida collection.
