This magnificent structure opened in 1913 as the Kibler Hotel at the corner of Kentucky Avenue and Lemon Street. Three years later the Kiblers flipped the hotel to Henry Carter, who named the hotel Thelma, after his daughter.

The Hotel Thelma and, it’s neighbor on the opposite corner, the Terrace Hotel thrived through the ’20s and ’30s. As the ’50s wore on so did the hotel. The hotel shuttered and was torn down in 1962. It’s mate, the Terrace Hotel had it’s own troubles but is still open today.

To the left is the sign for the Palace Theater, that is now known as Palace Pizza.

This postcard is part of the Swampy’s Florida collection.
