Swampy’s Florida Historic Photos: Camp Blanding Workers after work, 1940-41.
During World War II, military bases across the country were extremely active and brought in hundreds of workers. In Clay County, Camp Blanding did the same. Here’s a photo of a few of those workers, who came from all over, in their barracks sometime between 1940-41.
Note how similar the barracks shown are to those seen in prisoner camps. Well represented in films, like ‘stalag 17’ and, the T.V. series, ‘Hogan’s Heroes’.
This photo is from ‘Florida: a Short History” by Michael Gannon.
