I wonder how many fishing trips today with young folk include a roadside fish picnic?
I wonder how many fishing trips today include young folk?

The image above was not uncommon decades ago. The state had many roadside picnic areas. Those now almost entirely gone. Gets in the way of roadside food chains, y’know.

Even our state parks have backed away from picnics, providing less areas to drape a checkered cloth.
Picnicking was once a great way for families to gather with homemade goodies and share their food and time.

This photo is illustrating Rube Allyn’s book of ‘Sixteen Outboard Cruises on Florida Rivers’ involving traveling to fish in the Keys.

The year of the publication of this book is not noted in the book itself. That’s not unusual of the publisher, Great Outdoors. It is unfortunate to not be able to have it pegged. If someone knows or can better figure it, plases note in comments or send a message.

You can get your own copy of this very rare volume (if still available) here:

This book is part of the Swampy’s Florida collection.
