Swampy’s Tuesday Ads: The Copacabana Motel in Daytona Beach!
Here are parts of a fold out brochure for the Copacabana Motel in Daytona Beach. I think the lawyers today would advice the Copacabana Motel not to have the image of the folks sitting on the ledge. A search of the address seems to show the addressing has changed in the area since the days of the Copacabana Motel. There is a building that looks much like the same motel named the Silver Beach Club, but would have to go out there to really compare. If you know more please leave your thoughts below!
This motel is gone, the silver beach club was across the street. It was demolished in 2006 and there is a vacant lot there now. My family owned this motel for 50 years and I have a lot of memorabilia, but I’ve never seen this brochure. It’s very early, before the pool was built in the late 50’s. Thanks.
Hi Chris, Claire and I stayed at the Copa from 1984 until about 2003 or 04.
I watched you and your sisters work around the place when you were younger then you guys were off to school. I hope your mom is doing well.
Charles, my mom is doing fine, she lives in Lake Mary near Orlando where one of my sisters live.
Hi Chris! My family visited there during the summers since I was a little girl in the 70’s before we moved from Indiana to California. I remember learning to swim in that pool and I can still describe the room we stayed in. A lot of great memories there! Thanks and tell your mom hi from the Woloshansky’s.

Hi my family stayed at the copa since I was a little kid, then when I grew up we would all come down with our families. We are from Ohio, and my sister lives in Orlando. Your mom Barbara , and your dad were amazing and we loved the talks we had with them. My dad found out about the copa from Howard Poe, they worked at DuPont . We have the best memories coming to the copa, it was a slice of heaven..pics of your mom ,and my kids are in our vacation books. Now when we come back to Daytona to visit, it is so dead to us without the copa on the corner, so sad, and lonely!! But we have all the great memories ..thank you for letting me ramble on..oh, p.s my husband and I had our honeymoon at the copa, April of 1987..and we are still married! Lol Copa was our good luck charm! Sincerely Jill n Gary hart, and Barbara n George Johnston, Marietta, Ohio
Hey Chris, I saw a pic of Elvis there in 1956. Have you seen it?
Oh my goodness!! For some reason I decided to Google Copacabana. I started clicking on different sites and found this one. I started coming to Copacabana, from Kentucky, when I was 3 years old. I am now almost 36. I came with my mom, dad and brother, the same time every single year. It was definitely our home away from home. Always welcomed with open arms from Barbara Jean! We stayed in the same room every year and it was always the same people that vacationed the same time of year that we did. I grew up with these kids and remain friends with them till this day. Seeing these pictures of Copacabana bring back so many memories.
Chris, I hope your mom is doing wonderful! She is a great person. I miss her and Daytona so much. I have never returned to Daytona since they closed. I want to keep the memories I have, thinking nothing has changed!!
Holy cow I see where Chris answered my post way back in 2013. That tells you how long its been since I was on here. We loved the Copa. Tiffany if you were in the group that use to come down the first or second week in June, my Bro and Sis in law did also. I was down there twice during that week. I know they talked about some folks from Kentucky. We use to come down three times a year some times. I sure miss it.
I came down there from ear,y 80s till 05 came down in 07 found out no longer there I came down first week of June ever year sometimes twice loved your mom and dad were like family I stayed in another motel in 07 hated it wasn’t banana haven’t been back since 07 really miss coming down from Kentucky
So many great memories from the Copa. First stayed there in early 70’s. Then at least 5 other times. First it was spring break with friends from Northern Michigan University. Then our honeymoon. And then vacationing with our kids and friends from home. Always had a wonderful time there. Sad it’s no longer there. Chris, say hello to your mom for me and my wife Shelly. She may remember us. Best wishes to all of your family.
Wow! Just ran across this…Daytona is not the same without the Copa! My first time was in 83, came down with my boyfriend Mark, who had been staying there since the mid 70’s and who became my husband in 87, we spent our honeymoon there, Barbara and CJ were always so sweet!! Every year, sometimes twice!! Knew of the hurricane, but not the Copa!! Came down for bike week in 07, our wonderful “Florida Home” (our kids called it that) was gone! Miss your family!!
What happened to the Copa Cabana in Daytona. Making my first stop here and wondering about all the vacant beachfront property.
We were in room #44. In the late 70s I still have your family motel business card. Great stay. Wish it was still there.
