Bar-B-Q is all over our state. Though, harder to find than a few decades ago. Most know 95 year old Sonny Tillman’s creation, Sonny’s. There tends to be a place here and place there.

There’s Original Uncle Tom’s BBQ that’s been thriving for 76 years, just south of Coral Gables. (Not a favorite of mine, but far better than Sonny’s).
There’s O’Neal’s Country Buffet in Madison. (Where all the vittles that are hard for me to step away from.)
There’s Jimbo’s Pit Bar-B-Q and Fred’s Market Restaurant in Lakeland. (I spin around knowing I want to go to both at the same time!)
There used to be a ton more. Half dozen I liked around Pensacola. Now all gone.

There are so many!
Here’s one I’ve seen, but never been in: Woodpeckers Backyard BBQ.
The spot is VERY tucked away. It’s just over the bridge from Green Cove Springs. Some 20 miles northwest of St. Augustine. They are NOT in St. Augustine. That’s more hoodoo by the U.S. Postal Service, which calls it that.

Somehow it has come in as “Best” in Florida.
That is ridiculous.
I doubt .2% of our population has been there.

Thing is, there are a number of different ways to bar b q. Depending on which approach, the grading has to consider context.

There are a LOT of people that love 4Rivers BBQ and their many locations. I don’t like Texas BBQ, thus 4Rivers isn’t on my list of favorites.
I would guess, at least, 7% of our population has been to 4Rivers.
Did they vote for this?

I will make a point to stop at Woodpecker’s next time I’m in the area. Just spun by a little over a month ago.

As one who has been involved in “Top 10” lists, all are rigged in one way or other. Usually it’s just a matter of only tallying views from a select lot and not revealing that critical bit of information.
If I make a list now, I outwardly declare the views are my own based on being raised in Southern food in Orlando.
