Swampy's Florida

Here’s the Dinky Line train in the Orlando rail yard around 1900. The train ran as part of the Orlando-Winter Park Railroad that started in 1889. The train ride was irregular and difficult and it wasn’t unusual for the train to skip off the tracks which sometimes involved passengers getting the train back on the tracks. That is why the train got the Dinky title. The train slowed it’s runs as cars became more popular until it ended in the 1960s. My mother took the train sometimes to go from Rollins College to Orlando in the 1950s. She described the trip as rolling through the countryside between the college and Downtown Orlando.
