Swampy’s Tribute: Phyllis Thaxter
Long time actress Phyllis Thaxter died on August 14th in Longwood. We’ve been seeing many celebrities in their final days in Florida and thought we would start giving them a nod here. Both actors Ron Palillo and Davy Jones died in Palm Beach County just a series of miles from one another, for instance.
Thaxter is best known for her role as the mother, with Glenn Ford as the dad, in the 1978 Superman film starring Christopher Reeve. A photo is above. Below are movie posters of some of the films she shined in: ‘Bewitched’; ‘Jim Thorpe, All American’; ‘Act of Violence’ (She’s terrific in this film) and one of the best known of her films, ’30 Seconds Over Tokyo’. ’30 Seconds’ was partially filmed at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach. Not sure if Baxter was one of the stars that actually filmed in Florida.
