Swampy’s Historic Photos: Curtis Hixon Hall, Tampa, 1960s-70s.
Swampy’s Florida Facebook friend, Johnny Phillips, asked about Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa. I just had a photo of it I was going to post and now can’t find it. I still wanted to honor his request, so I went to a source rarely used when putting these posts together – The internet. Found some terrific photos. Those are above.
The convention center was opened in 1965 and named after Tampa Mayor Curtis Hixon, who served from 1943 until his death in office in 1956. It was determined by those interested in redeveloping Downtown Tampa that the venue was outdated and the wrecking ball was put to it in 1993.
