Swampy Live: at the spooky Ashley’s in Rockledge
A stop at the well known watering hole for the ghost set, Ashley’s in Rockledge.
The building was constructed in 1928 and has since been a combination bar and restaurant with several names and owners.
For the past 27 years it has been Ashley’s, though uses a version of the logo from it’s most recent incarnation, Gentleman Jim’s. Food-wise, it’s mostly known for it’s steaks and bar. The architecture inside and out is interesting, also.
What the location is best known for statewide is it’s supposed haunting. The ghost stories precede the 1928 building. Various ghosts and happenings have and are still reported experiences.
The best known is the 1934 murder of Ethel Allen in the building, at the time known as Jack’s Tavern. Since the stories of people experiencing some sort of apparition of her have been numerous.
Ghost hunters today still love to spook the place looking for spooks. If you are interested in learning more about investigating the location, call the restaurant and ask for Christy- (431) 636 – 6430.
