Swampy’s Florida Ads: Western Sizzlin Steakhouse, Pensacola, 1974.
A great place to have gone for Prime Rib Day. A place customers could see their steaks cooked. In the late ’80s, the places turned into full buffets. Eventually the owners added a couple of other buffets, included Quincy’s Steak House. The entire lot and Steak ‘n Shake, today, is owned by a quirky Iranian fellow, who lives in San Antonio, Texas.
All are gone in Florida now. There are many dozens stretching from Texas up to Pennsylvania.
Many of the buildings in Florida still stand. The 2 mentioned above are both gone. The first spot has a new building as Sonic Drive-Thru. The other is now a Jimmy Johns Subs.
The ad, above, is from a January 1974 edition of the Pensacola News-Journal.
