This is the Myles Building in Downtown Melbourne. Built in 1913, this building has housed everything from a hotel to school classrooms. Currently in the building is Chandlery, a shop of candles and gifts, opened in 1994. Beside Chandlery is Giftique, which is also a gift shop and opened in 2006.
After prohibition Shorty’s Bar moved in along with a pool room. It is said that gangster Al Capone made Shorty’s one of his many Florida stops and shot some pool.
Swampy stops at the 65 year old Dairy Belle on US 1 in Riviera Beach. There have been many owners over the years. The current owner has had the business fifteen years.
As road construction plagues the businesses along the major thoroughfare, Dairy Belle holds on. Noticed while traveling the state many small and local businesses closing as road construction has taken presidency over commerce. That is really evident between Lady Lake and Leesburg along US 441 where many businesses have closed as road construction plows into it’s third year.
