Swampy’s Matchbooks: the Brahma Restaurant, Ocala.
Swampy stops at Durante Park on Longboat Key. A terrific park where it’s easy to stroll amongst the mangroves along a shell path, a bridge or boardwalks. The trail is not the typical short mangrove trails around the state. This is a wonderful meandering trail that goes in many directions and criss-crosses itself at different points. The scene is generally the same from sand to water, but I don’t know of a more extensive access to so much of the mangrove community.
There is also a children’s play area and an excellent brochure that well guides visitors.
Need to mention that Durante Park falls on the Manatee County side of Longboat Key. If you don’t live on the key it is a loooooong drive from either the Sarasota or Bradenton side. But if you happen to be going through the area it’s well worth the stop.
Swampy’s on the road again. This time in Vero Beach at the 16th annual Coastal Florida Curriculum Fair. One of Swampy’s biggest supporters, The Knowledge Exchange in Palm Bay has Swampy and his handler, Rob Smith, Jr. at this event that provides educators resources to teach. All of Swampy’s books, prints and the 2 how to draw DVDs, that were introduced last night at the show, are here.
Sorry to report the death of one of the last of the Jimmy Doolittle Raiders, Thomas Griffin, 96. Click here to see his page and to the main page to learn more about the group, what they did and the the farewell reunion coming April 17th – 20th.
We hope everyone can come out and join us in Fort Walton Beach for this farewell reunion of the four surviving members of this scary and imperative mission that was America’s response to the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor. This will be your last chance to meet these brave men.
