Don’t forget Florida’s traditional Christmas gift for hundreds of years: Citrus. An orange is a perfect addition to a stocking. So, swing by Jennings, Harvey’s, Hollieanna, Mixon, etc. and grab a bag of oranges to put under the tree!
Swampy Live: at Highlands Hammock State Park , Sebring.
Here’s Jeremy and Brenda with Swampy and a Swampy card. Last year’s card was the subject of the card. This year the location illustrated is the Clay Theater in Green Cove Springs.
The best example of Christmas in the Lake Square Mall is the setting for Santa. I like it better than what I saw at Melbourne Square. International Mall’s plain bench for Santa by a giant fake igloo that is advertising a cartoon doesn’t provide any festiveness at all for the folks in Tampa.
The elf figurines surrounding a homey plush chair and bookcase that includes schedule clocks from around the world and Leesburg are all very cute and clever.
Otherwise, the mall, with too much empty store space, has very reserved decorations or none at all. I was told by an employee in one of the food court offerings that corporate does not allow Christmas decorations. Decorating is a fireable offense.
That seems to be the general mood in the three malls I’ve visited so far. Let’s see what I find next!
A trip to Orlando requires a stop at Beefy King. Since 1968 their roast beef sandwiches are voted best in Central Florida. Add spuds, coke slaw and an orange shake and it’s a lunch hard to beat.
