I’ll post a few scenes from the upcoming Swampy’s Florida mini-comic book coming out next weekend in Lakeland.
Swampy discovered Pumpernickels German Restaurant, in Titusville.
Love the sign!
This is the delicatessen area of the restaurant. Click here to see a typical menu at the restaurant.
Swampy scarfed up the yummy Chicken Hunter Style sandwich. In fact, this is only half of it. Swampy had already eaten the other half! The chicken and melted cheese blended perfectly for a terrific taste treat.
Postcard Wednesday: Holly Hill – The Riviera
The Riviera was a grand hotel along the Halifax River in Volusia County for many years. It still stands, without the large letters on top, as a retirement home.
There are a number of changes, such a as a large modern addition on the south side of the building and accessible from US 1. Also the beautiful garden trail to the river is gone and homes line the pathway. Nevertheless, unlike so make structures historic structures demolished over time, this one is still there and proving the test of time.
On the back of the 1940 postcard are some very interesting rates!
Below is a location map of the Riviera:
Tuesday’s Ads – Maitland – HollieannaGroves – Salutes 1952
Here’s an ad with a cute rhyme for Hollieanna Sales Room on 17-92 in Maitland. Guess what? They are STILL there! Now awash in other commercial development, Hollieanna Groves is the last of what used to be dozens of citrus stands along 17-92 in Central Florida. The family is still involved and the groves are picked, bagged and sold at this citrus spot in Maitland.
I’ll have to check their claim on the website of being family owned and operated since 1954. The magazine is positively from 1952. Maybe it was sold prior to 1954.
Look for Hollieanna Groves appearing shortly in the Swampy comic strip.

Thursday’s Ads – Winter Park -WPHS Play
Interesting that the mailing address was at the Jefferson Court Hotel in Orlando. Ilk Chase was a celebrity best known for her talk and game show appearances.
