Postcard Wednesday – Lake Wales – Bok Tower
“The Singing Tower from the North” is the title on the back of this unmailed postcard. There are a zillion of postcards wit the tower in it, but not many with flamingos.

Was speaking to my friend Rafael Diaz about the Orlando Public Library and what this grand version looked like a few decades ago. I was going to send this postcard image to him, but thought I’d share it with you all, too. There’s no postmark on the back. Guess this is from the ’50s by the buildings around it. By the way, the back of the postcard is labelled with “Beautiful Florida Series”.
Swampy and Swampy’s Florida will be in Dade City, Florida, drawing folks during the opening of Swampy’s friend Keith Martin John’s new art show, “Preserving Paradise” at the Uptown Gallery from 6pm to 9pm. If you’re in the area, come by and say Hello, get a photo with Swampy and take a look at Keith’s fantastic paintings depicting Florida’s heritage. Swampy’s keeper, Rob Smith, Jr., will be doing Florida themed caricatures for donations to the Pioneer Florida Village in Dade City.
“Chute the Chute’ is the title of this postcard of St. Augustine’s Alligator Farm. The card is postmarked 1966. The Alligator Farm is still with us. You can learn more about the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and plan a trip there by clicking here.
Here’s an ad from a St. Petersburg Apartment guide that is undated but appears to be from the 1940s. One interesting bit here is that there is no actual physical street address given for the building. For many people in today’s world this would be impossible to find because they can’t read maps and don’t know their way around with out punching all of the address information in a digital device.
