As Bunny settles back to read Marjorie Kinnan Rawling’s classic novel, ‘The Yearling’, a yearling runs up and leaps over her.

Rawlings was born today in 1896 in Washington, D.C. In 1928, Rawlings moved to Island Grove, in southern Alachua County. The area she lived, known as Cross Creek, inspired her to write the classics ‘The Yearling’ and ‘Cross Creek’ and other stories in which she used the area as the backdrop. Rawlings died in 1953.
