World Post Day celebrates mail carriers all over the world! It’s little known that Swampy once was a “Barefoot Mailman” in the 1800s. Back in the late 1800s mail wasn’t delivered to southeast Florida. There was no real practical way to get mail down to areas to be known as Miami. A route was finally established of select men and boys who would take a boat part of the way and walk the rest of the 80 miles from around Palm Beach down to south of Miami. Those walking did it barefoot and thus later they were labeled barefoot mailmen. At one point Swampy was asked to help in carting packages south to Miami. He always walked barefoot!
