When the 1000th Burger Chef opened August 9th, 1969 in Treasure Island, south of Clearwater, the pirates came out in force to celebrate with burger, fries and shakes!

Came across this image when Swampy’s Friend, Gar, sent a story about Burger Chef in Florida. Burger Chef was a very popular fast food burger place that was becoming successful at the same time McDonalds and Burger King were. Eventually Burger Chef was eaten up by the Hardees chain. Some of the old Burger Chefs are still Hardees. The most complete structure did not become a Hardees, but transitioned directly into a Jack’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers in Oakland Park, near Fort Lauderdale, and is till very popular today. Others have become many other businesses. Few of the buildings have been demolished.
