September 1st, 2018 visit to
Caddy Shack
in the World Golf Village in northern St. Johns County.
with, friend, Ann Alexander.

This restaurant is in the labyrinth of the World Golf Village just off 9 Mile Road (Now mostly re-named International Golf Parkway) and the intersection of US 95. If going, be sure to give yourself yourself plenty of time to travel the serpentine roads though the World Golf development to get to parking. The parking is usually plentiful in that many go to the restaurant from the hotel next door that has it’s own parking.

The restaurant is still another bar with restaurant seating with obnoxious screens everywhere blaring sports nonsense. The bar is the feature. A curved structure first seen entering the establishment. The lighting is very good. Which helps seeing the spotty display of sports memorabilia. Seating at tables is not crowded. The booths comfortable.

From the menu:
My choice:
– “Chicken & Waffles”
lightly fried chicken breast tenders layered between malted waffles, drizzled with spiced maple syrup, strawberry purée, a dollop of whipped butter, and dusted with powdered sugar”

– Side salad

Ann’s choice:
– “Crispy Potato Golf Balls
lightly fried garlic mashed potatoes loaded with cheddar cheese and bacon served with signature horseradish dipping sauce”

My review:
The chicken is otherwise known as chicken strips today. Tender meat and the breading is light. I wouldn’t call it Southern, as it’s missing the salt and butter flavor.
The whole waffle is very well made. IThe powdered sugar was added very sparingly. The butter was real butter and plenty of it in a side cup.
In total the whole is nothing spectacular: A waffle and a few chicken strips.
Two sauces come with the dish: The strawberry sauce is OK, but was more sauce than strawberry. I, and Ann, found the spiced maple syrup awful tasting and an odd choice for the waffle or the chicken or anything else.

The side salad was standard with tasty croutons.

Ann says the potato balls are her favorite from the menu. I tried part of one and it was very tasty. Even part was full of bacon and cheese. I didn’t see or taste anything crispy about the balls, VERY good.

This was my first visit for food. My 3rd visit otherwise.
It was a business meeting for projects for Ann Alexander and she was very kind to pay the check.
