Friday marked the 67th anniversary of Florida started, ‘Burger King’!!!
Actually, the fast food burger joint started as ‘Insta-Burger King’ in Jacksonville about 1953 by two fellows. The name came from the ‘Insta’ burger machines they used. They sold the business to two other fellows in Miami. Those two decided to drop the ‘Insta-‘, use the machines and open as ‘Burger King’ in the far more populous Miami in 1959 near the newly built US95 highway.

The ‘Insta-Burger’ site still stands as ‘Stan’s Sandwich Shop’. They make a great sandwich, by the way. I’ve heard the ‘Stan’s’ location shuttered during all of this virus hysteria. I’ll be in Jacksonville Thursday and see what’s happening there.

The original 1959 ‘Burger King’ location is still a ‘Burger King’, thought the site has been rebuilt.
