The postcard as a narrative that includes general facts of Lakeland… in 1946:
“Lakeland is the largest city in Polk County. Approximately one third of the citrus grown in Florida is produced in the Lakeland area. Within the city limits of Lakeland are thirteen lakes thus deserving of it’s name.”

This postcard was mailed from Bertha in Bradenton to Mrs. Ella Bates in Beloit, Wisconsin.
Ella must have been frustrated trying to decipher Bertha’s message. First, Bertha used a very light pencil and her scribbling is hard to read. Worse, the postal folks post stamped on top of the message.
