In Downtown Bartow, Mrs. Gladys Dubose demonstrates a new portable pay phone. The Peninsular Telephone Co. phone was developed right in Bartow in 1949 by Bartow Exchange Manager Nye Jordan. It was intended to be used at events like fairs and other outdoor events.
