Swampy’s Florida Historic Photos: Banana George of Cypress Gardens.
This is photo of the world famous bare foot water skier, George Blair, is from before 1993 when the book with this photo on the cover came out. George got the Banana added to his moniker because of the yellow suits he wore. His fame stems from his skiing at such an advanced age. In the ’80s and ’90s he made quite a media splash. He also brought a lot of attention to his water skiing base of Cypress Gardens at the time. He hung up his skis at 92 and devoted time to his love of jazz music.
Geroge died October 17, 2013.
