The docks were a popular place for business and travel in Punta Gorda. Here is one of the railroad docks in the early 1900s. To the left are fish warehouses. Watch for an upcoming Swampy’s Florida cartoon about Punta Gorda.

In the background of the photograph is the grand Hotel Charlotte Harbor. It was built in 1886 and named Hotel Punta Gorda. The structure burned to the ground in 1959. After that it became the Punta Gorda Mall Shopping Center.

This photo is from ‘Our Fascinating Past: Charlotte Harbor, the later year’ by Williams Lindsey.
