Swampy’s Florida Postcard Thursday: The Melbourne Hotel, Melbourne, 1952.
This postcard of the former Melbourne Hotel was mailed from Grant, just south of Melbourne, December 11th, 1952 from Flossie to Mrs. Naomi Jackson, 3342 Morrison Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio. Flossie writes that he didn’t stay at the hotel above, but at the ‘Carter Hotel’ in Grant, a few miles south of Melbourne and home of the annual Grant Seafood Festival.
Today the Melbourne Hotel still stands and is active as an office business now known as the 1900 Building, the address that the Melbourne hotel since it was built. The hotel rooms are now space for a slew of different businesses. I toured the building a few months ago. I’ll post some of those photos over the weekend.
