Swampy’s Postcard : The Burt Reynolds Theater, Jupiter.
Actor, Burt Reynolds built this theater in Jupiter and opened in 1979. It was just north of Riviera Beach where he grew up and his father was a municipal police officer. The theater was very successful at first and Reynolds added acting classes to the options there. As theaters in general suffered, Reynolds passed the theater to a management company and the theater further slipped to closing in 1996. Reynolds then sold the structure and it eventually passed through a series of hands until a group of locals picked it up and slapped it with the name, Maltz (What a name). The place still exists today with many additions and structural changes.
