Swampy's Florida

During Swampy’s travels, came across this former Gulf Station in Quincy. It’s a stand alone museum, maintained by friends and family of the owners.

This location was known as the Gulf Oak Station. At one time, a large oak was behind the station, which differentiated this Gulf Station from another further north in Quincy.

Robert Hollingsworth began running the station in 1951. His son, Bobby, grew up with. That includes Bobby developing the relationship via the station with Nell. The two married for 63 years. Their children were also raised around the sttaion.

Due to the micro-managing by the auto industry and beyond, the station was closed in 1975. Wilson Hinson took over the station and failed to have a business succeed there.
Hinson worked, with the Hollingsworths, to preserve the station for generations to come.

The Hollingsworths began having antique car rallies at the site. Soon, the station was better known as a car buff gathering place to have great hot dogs and car talk than when it was as a gas station!

Today, the station structure still stand, as can be seen int he photos. Memorabilia galore can be seen inside. Great thanks for the immense effort of maintaining this location go to the Hollingsworth and those that have helped and continued the mission.

Robert died in 1988. Bobby died in 2016. Nell, as of this writing, is still alive near Havana, Florida, being around 90.
