It was the late ’50s in the U.S. Prosperity was king after the economic buildup since the end of WW II.
Vacationing in Florida by plane, Delta in this case, was becoming the thing to do. The ‘Tin Can Tourist’ was replaced by fancy cars, bus travel and aviation fun. Airports all over Florida had been rebuilding airports in population hubs statewide.
The postcard from yesterday of the 1941 Jacksonville Airport was replaced ten years later with quite an expansion. My grandfather was part of the political machine that ushered in a much expanded airport in Dade County in the latter half of the ’50s.
Eastern, Delta and other airlines were having brochures like the one above with light carefree graphics of bathing suit clad tourists frolicking in the sea of “Millionaire Dream Vacations”!
