Here’s Ross Allen at Silver Springs park (now known as Silver Springs Sate Park). As stated on the back of the card, this is Allen performing a duty he did a good deal of his life, milking a rattlesnake for it’s venom.

What you see in the background is what Silver Sprigns was looking like back in the ’50s and ’60s.

There are about 6 of these same postcards in the Swampy’s Florida collection. None are postmarked, but based on how Allen looks, would guesstimate this postcard to be from the mid-50s.

Swampy’s Florida says Happy Neil Armstrong’s Birthday!

To also celebrate Quotation Day, Swampy reads Neil Armstrong’s famous quote, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”, that Armstrong stated after landing on the moon, July 20th, 1969, after a launch from Cape Canaveral.

Armstrong died August 25th, 2012.

Swampy’s Florida says Happy Coast Guard Day!

It’s U.S. Coast Guard Day, a branch of our U.S. military that is too often forgotten. Trilby and Zuber help raise the flag on the boat. These servicemen and women protect the massive sea waters that surround our country. August 4th was the day selected to celebrate these open water sentries because it was this day in 1790 that the military organization began. In the Coast Guard boat is Trilby and Zuber are in the boat as it travels the waters around Amelia Island. One job the Coast Guard has in Florida is to keep watch of the lighthouses that surround the state.

 
This all leads to a celebration day coming Sunday. This drawing will basically be repeated but in entirely a different angle on Sunday. Check back Sunday to see what I’m referring to.
