Swampy’s #Florida – Who Remembers? : Gustafson Farm, Green Cove Springs
Do you remember Mama and Papa Gus?

Here’s the carton cover of Gustafson Farm’s Half and Half. Gustafson Farm’s milk products have been a staple in Florida homes since 1908. They’ve been continuously around Green Cove Springs until 2013 when the owners, Southeast Milk, closed the plant. The name does live on as Southeast continues to produce a more limited supply of the Gustafson named milk. The cartons have been gone a while now, but look for the plastic containers in the refrigerated area of your local grocery store.
This carton, as is with most everything else you find within this blog, is part of the Swampy’s Florida collection.
Gustafson Farm made the best chocolate milk I’ve ever tasted in my life. I remember in the 1960s seeing television commercials that highlighted Mama & Papa Gus. While T.G. Lee my hometown Orlando dairy (I toured their facility on E. Robinson as a kid), I’d knew that a pint of Gustafson Farm chocolate milk was nirvana. Decades later, I would buy it when in the Gainesville area, but after their Green Cove Springs dairy farm closed, all that remains are my memories of the taste.
