Swampy’s Florida Postcards: Along Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach, 1930.
One of the constant errors I find written of Florida is that the rural, undeveloped Florida disappeared after 1900. Serious development didn’t really occur until the late 19-teens. There were a few cities that had established a few blocks of structures, but real serious development exploded in the 1920s. Still, this image of Ocean Boulevard may be found surprising. This stretch sure looks different today. Though some miles north, patches of this look can still be found.
This postcard is postmarked February 24th, 1924. Mailed by a Miss Crayaul, thought the spelling is hard to read. She mailed this to a Miss Emily Miller of the Fisher Beauty Shoppe in Cleveland, Ohio.
The send writes, “How would you like to be along on these kind of roads.”
This postcard is part of the Swampy’s Florida collection.
