That’s the Suwannee River streaming past the former site of Fort Fanning. The fort was built during the second Seminole Indian War. The original fort name was Palmetto before the death of Colonel Alexander Campbell Wilder Fannin during the Semniole Indian War. For some reason a ‘G’ was added at the end and so came the name of the fort.

Before the bridge, there was a ferry in the late 1800s and then wooden turn bridge. In the 1930s a steel bridge was built and then the concrete version, seem here, built in the 1950s.
