As is stated on the back of this October 9, 1942 postmarked postcard, “Tampa is an important key point in the nation’s defense system, with it’s U.S. Army Air Bases-McDill and Drew Field.” For some reason there is a postmark from Los Angeles, California. On the flip side, there is another postmark from Tampa.
The message is from P.V.T. Virgil Gookin (Sounds like a Jerry Lewis character) to “Boomer”. The card is addressed to PFC Edwin Worden (Hard to tell. Gookin’s script is tough to figure). Gookin writes that the Army Air “got me after all”. He also adds that florida is “hot”.

This postcard is part of the Swampy’s Florida collection.
