Swampy visits with Butch Wilson, who runs the fantastic Clewiston Historical Museum. The museum displays the vast history of the area from prehistoric to the sugar industry to present.
Butch showed a series of recent amazing improvements to the museum. Most are technological. One is not. He added a “screen” to show films. What he did was put seven coats of paint covering a good amount of a wall and framed it with decorative wooden molding. You have to look a few times to notice it’s not a real screen!
Here’s Swampy at a railroad worker’s cottage built around the time the big hurricane came in 1926. It’s all part of the South Bay RV Campground in South Bay. There’s also access to the waters of Lake Okeechobee and to the section of the Florida Trail that goes all away around the lake.

Here’s Swampy with Sinclair who works in the only other Royal Castle in Miami. He explained the difference between his burgers and Arnold’s Royal Castle. Below is a photo of the two sets of the burgers side by side. On the left is Arnold’s and on the right is Sinclair’s. Sinclair’s look much more like a burger, they cut real onions and toast their buns. There definitely a significant difference in taste with Sinclair’s winning out. By the way, Sinclair does not own the restaurant. He’s just very proud of his work. Wouldn’t it be great to find more employees dedicated to their work!!!
Here’s Swampy at Arnold’s Royal Castle in North Miami. The front is as many Royal Castles were as they closed in the mid-60s. This one and one near Hialeah are the two that survived in Florida. Below is the apron that greets you at the entrance. There’s also a photo inside. The burgers are just as the old Royal Castles were, much like a Krystal burger. Real nice young folks tending the lunch counter.
