Swampy will be at the 2nd Annual Polk Authors & Illustrators Festival in Downtown Lakeland, Florida, this Saturday. Swampy’s Handler, Rob Smith, Jr., will be signing (& doodling in) Swampy’s Florida coloring books from 9am to 3pm. Rob will also be watercoloring a few Florida images there, too! If you’re in the area, stop by and say ‘Hi!’ to Swampy!
Swampy’s Matches: Jean’s Candy Shoppe, Miami Beach
From Miami Beach, it’s Jean’s Candy Shoppe. Don’t know anything about Jean’s so please feel free to leave a note if you do. Jean sure had an outstanding book of matches. I’d guess this is from the 1940s.
Sorry about the blurry scan, but it’s not easy to scan a matchbook with matches in it. Neat image on the matches!
Swampy’s Postcard Wednesday: Cape Coral Gardens, Cape Coral.
Here’s an undated postcard of the former Cape Coral Gardens. The attraction was built with the intent of getting people to visit and then consider buying a home nearby in the development (Golden Gate Estates) owned by the fellows who also had Cape Coral Gardens. The story of Golden Gate Estates is a legendary one in development circles and you are encouraged to learn more about the project.
Swampy’s Tuesday’s Ads: Thomas A. Edison Home, Fort Myers.
Here’s an early brochure for the Edison Home in Fort Myers. Click here to plan a trip to see the Edison House yourself!
Swampy’s Travels: Finds the entrance of the Upper Hillsborough park land in Pasco County.
Swampy found the main entrance to the Upper Hillsborough tract just east of Zephyrhills in Pasco County on County Road 54. Click here to learn more of all you can do on this tract of the Southwest Florida Management District. Unfortunately got there too late to explore. Swampy will be back!
