Sorry to learn of the death of former Rollins College president Thaddeus Seymour at 91 years old. There have been many presidents of Rollins College since it opened in Winter Park in 1885. Knowing quite a bit of Rollins history, and one who was at Rollins when Seymour was president, I’d say Seymour knew how humor and a sense of achieving goals created successful leadership. His inspiring talk and infectious laugh could get any one to follow his lead.

My experience with Seymour goes beyond Rollins. His involvement in the community had us cross paths many, many times. Especially involving the Winter Park Public Library, where I’ve been attending their book sales and book store for about 35 years. Seymour was always there and always helpful to carry a box of books for someone, help find a book or dutifully figuring a book tab.

Seymour’s investment of time and effort for where he lived is an extremely rare quality to find these days. I write that as one who’s mighty invested in the community of Florida and interact with those putting on and running community events. There are some like him, but there was only one Thad Seymour.
