Swampy’s #Florida Train Stops: Florida East Coast Railroad’s “Henry M. Flagler”, 1939.

Here’s the “Henry M. Flagler”, the Florida East Coast Railroad’s first diesel engine. Between December 3rd, 1939 to December 18th, 1940, the engine pulled a train of cars between Jacksonville to Miami. After, the engine rode the same route but, this time, for a set of cars originating out of Chicago.

Swampy’s Florida says Happy U.S. Air Force Day!

Swampy suggests Bunny’s future plans might include joining the U.S. Air Force. Think of the planes a girl could fly!

Our state has many Air Force bases, including MacDill, in Tampa; Homestead; Eglin, in Pensacola; Tyndall, near Panama City;  Patrick, near Satellite Beach and other smaller recruiting centers.

U.S. Air Force Day was established by President Harry Truman for August 1st, 1947. In 1949 Armed Forces Day was established to cover all the celebratory days for the military divisions. Despite that U.S. Air Force Day is still recognized by many, including those of the U.S. Air Force.

Source of this tidbit is from ‘Chronological History of Winter Park Florida’ by Claire McDowell.
I like to post a link to be able to purchase the sources of material I use. I want folks to learn more of our history and it’s a sneaky way of pushing the idea. Also supporting the purchases of books.
In this case, the edition of ‘Chronological History of Winter Park Florida’ available at Amazon is mighty pricey. Maybe later checks will find a cheaper edition.
This book is part of the Swampy’s Florida collection. I’ll mention I believe I purchased my copy at the old Winter Park Library book sale that used to be held at Winter park Mall back in the ’80s. I believe I paid a quarter for the book.
