Swampy Live: with Rick Smith at ‘Patrick Smith’s Florida’.
It’s a packed, packed house at this event celebrating Patrick Smith’s ‘A Land Remembered’ at the W.T. Bland Library in Mt. Dora! It’s extremely heart warming to see such a huge turnout for an event presented by the book’s author’s son, Rick Smith. The book is considered THEE book of fiction that covers Florida’s history.
This is Rick’s first tour through Florida presenting the history, ideas and personal history that brought about ‘A Land Remembered’ and Smith’s other books. Rick travelled from his current residence in California to make this multi-stop tour through the state.
The event starts off with Florida folk music performed by Kathy DeWitt from Gainesville. DeWitt asks the audience how many Florida natives are in attendance. Great to see about half the crowd raise their hands.
Rick’s presentation includes video appearances of his father enhancing Rick’s story of his father’s writing history.
You can still attend Rick Smith’s stellar program:
January 17 Villages Public Library Wildwood Community Center, 6500 CR 139, Wildwood 2:00 PM
January 19 The Henegar Center For The Arts 625 E New Haven Ave # 119, Melbourne 2:00 PM
January 20 Central Brevard Library, 308 Forrest Ave. Cocoa 2:00 PM
January 22 Tampa Bay History Center 801 Old Water Street, Tampa 6:30 PM
Sorry, You and I can’t attend in Wildwood (unless you registered several days ago). Publicity was so poorly disseminated outside “The Villages” that most of the Florida Native residents around our area heard nothing until I “stumbled” on an obscure item on the internet Yesterday. Judging Hits and Misses, We call that a Miss 🙁
