George Jenkins opened Publix in 1930 in Winter Haven. By 1940 he opened his first glass and marble Publix Food Store also in Winter Haven near where his first store had been. Above is opening day. Below is what it looked like inside. Many of the glass and marble Publix buildings, looking much like the one above, still stand in Florida.
